NEDGA SUNDAY PENNANT FINALS 2026

5 May by Phil Conway

On Sunday May 3rd the Sunday Pennant finals were conducted at Wangaratta Golf Club, which was presented in a magnificent condition.
The day dawned overcast and grey with a prediction of heavy rain during the day.
With only light showers stating to persist the day got under way with the junior pennant teams hitting off on the first tee, and the first of the handicap battles off the tenth tee.
As the day progressed the weather gods appeared to be smiling on us with intermittent showers being the only discomfort to the players. However as with all things, the heavens did open up just as the last of the scratch and the handicap section two finals were finishing.
As we all know there are winners and losers on the day of finals, however it appeared that all competitors enjoyed themselves.
Now for the results of the day: -
Scratch Pennant - Thurgoona Def Mansfield 4/1, and the Pennant Player of the Year is Greg Daniels from Thurgoona, who went through undefeated for the season.
Section One Handicap – Thurgoona Def Albury Commercial 4/1, and the Pennant Player is Tom Leitch from YMGCR
Section Two Handicap – Mansfield Def Beechworth 3/2, and the Player of the Year is Nate Longstaff from Mansfield.
Section Three Handicap – Thurgoona Def Jubilee 4/1, and the Player of the Year is Craig Piazza from Myrtleford.
Women’s Handicap – Jubilee Def YMGCR 3/2, and the Player of the Year is Tania Zentfeld from YMGCR.
Junior Handicap – Howlong Def Wodonga 4/1. And the player of the Year is Tate Thomson from YMGCR.
A big thank you goes to Tracey McKinnon from Wangaratta for her organisation, along with captain Scott and his able assistant Rob for them starting the fields off each tee.
I would like to congratulate all of the winners this year, and also all of the competing teams this season.
Last but not least, I would also like to thank NEDGA Life Member Tom Leitch for his assistance on the day.
