NEDGA PENNANT FINALS

On Sunday May 7th the NEDGA conducted the pennant finals at Mansfield Golf Club.
Whilst the weather was a tad chilly and the wind biting, all combatants played their matches on a beautifully prepared course.
During the course of the day a number of matches swayed to and fro causing some worries and excitement for all the teams involved.
In the end the matches started to come to fruition which the following results indicate.
In the juniors it was an all Benalla final with Benalla (1) triumphing over Benalla (2) 5/0. Whilst the margin was all one way, there were some extremely tight battles being conducted on the course.
The Pennant Player of the year was Jacob Campbell from Benalla (2).
In the women’s section Yarrawonga Mulwala GCR were the victors over Wodonga 4/1, again with tight matches being deciding factor.
The Pennant Player of the year was Heather Briggs from Howlong.
Following on we then started the Men’s Handicap sections.
In Section Three the combatants were Myrtleford against Mansfield. Despite some extremely great play from Myrtleford, the winners were Mansfield on their home track 5/0.
The player of the year for the section was Trout Batt from Myrtleford, who won all of his round robin matches.
In Section Two we had Myrtleford and Mansfield also playing against each other, after Mansfield scraped into the final on a countback from Jubilee. This match went down to the wire with Mansfield coming out the victors 3.5/1.5.
Player of the year for Section Two was Peter Vallance from Mansfield who won all his matches including the final.
Handicap Section One was also a tight battle between Thurgoona and Beechworth. The result was a win to Thurgoona 3/2 with the last match decided on the eighteenth hole.
Section One Player of the Year was Darren Edwards from Beechworth who also won his five round robin matches.
The Division Two scratch was decided between Thurgoona (1) and Thurgoona (2). As you would expect there was some fantastic golf played between the two teams with Thurgoona (1) coming out the victors 3/2.
Pennant Player of the year was Richard Delmonico from Thurgoona (1).
Finally in Division One Scratch the combatants were Thurgoona and Corowa. With Corowa starting the day with a player absent they still put up a good fight going down 4/1, with two matches finishing on the eighteenth hole.
The Pennant Player of the year for Division One Scratch was Ethan Bell form Corowa who also did not lose a match for the season.

I would like to thank our life members Barry Webb and Tom Leitch and Mansfield club member Shane O’Brien for their assistance in getting the players away on time, and also assisting with the notification of all match results.
I would also like to congratulate Mansfield on the course presentation and thank them for their wonderful catering both during the matches and also at the conclusion during presentations.
